Ikwetta is a brand of leather bags and footwear handcrafted by Kenyan artisans with a focus on sustainability. We believe in crafting pieces that are luxurious and timeless so they can be worn for years, even decades to come. To ensure this, we source only the finest materials from ethical factories.
All our leather is sourced from Africa's largest and first LWG Gold-rated tannery. LWG certified, ensures that the leather is tanned responsibly against measures like traceability, resource consumption, and effluent treatment.
We work closely with artisan craftspeople from East Africa, creating products from locally-sourced materials such as leather, handwoven fabrics, raffia, and other traditional fabrics. Not only do these make for vibrant, beautiful bags and shoes that celebrate unique traditions, but us tapping into the expertise of artisans are also supporting local economies, creating job opportunities for women and underprivileged youth.
We repurpose excess leather and cuttings that may have otherwise gone to waste to make products as a part of our Zero Waste Initiative. We have a long way until we achieve that goal however we are on track - thanks to your support on purchasing our small leather goods.
Less but Better
Creating handcrafted and ethically manufactured products with homegrown materials in superlative quality which will last you decades and still look timeless. We are determined to create a conscious consumerism community who know the true cost of purchases.
